Trip Name: Shooting Sports Weekend

Destination: Camp Barstow | 117 Camp Barstow Drive | Saluda, SC 29138

Dates: 11/17/2023 6:00 PM to 11/19/2023 12:30 PM

Event Review

Court of Honor

We held our semi-annual Court of Honor in conjunction with Troop 146 and it was really nice event!  There were tons of awards, merit badges and rank advancements handed out to our scouts.

September 15-17, 2023

Cold Mountain

The Cold Mountain trip was broken into two treks; one a more challenging backpacking trip that included a 2300+ ft. elevation gain and the extra difficulty factor of hiking down the mountain in pouring rain.  The less challenging trek was a short trip to the Graveyard Fields parking area on the Blue Ridge Parkway where the group hiked the Upper Graveyard Falls trail (about a 4-mile round trip) with a trail lunch at the waterfall.  In addition to some spectacular views along the Blue Ridge Parkway, there were some interesting wildlife observations, including wild turkeys and a Timber Rattler!

Peanut/Tree Nut free Trail Mix

Happy Tuesday!

When backpacking and day hiking, having stuff for good trail snacks is important.

They are good for morale and a little quick energy.

Unfortunately for some, the chief ingredient in many retail trail mixes is nuts of some kind.

Here are some ideas for ingredients that can be used to make your own trail mix.

Ingredient Ideas

Pumpkin seeds (salted or unsalted)

Dried fruit (bananas, apricots, cranberries, raisins, etc.)

Crackers (goldfish or similar – something small)

Mini pretzels

Candy (M&Ms,  various chocolate chips, etc. – better for cooler weather)

Sunflower seeds (salted or unsalted)

Grain (Chex and Cheerios cereal)

Let your imagination be your guide!

Mix up the ingredients of your choice and portion into snack size zip-loc bags.
