Troop 46 - Potential New Merit Badges

Greetings Troop 46 Scouts, Parents and Leader!

I'm excited to announce a unique opportunity for our scouts!
There are three merit badges that are being evaluated to be added as official merit badges.
Scouting America is looking to scouts to provide feedback on them.

They are:
- Auctioneering
- Life Skills
- Wildland Fire Management

Merit Badge Test Lab: https://www.scouting.org/skills/merit-badges/test-lab/

Test Lab Rules

1. Any registered adult can work with Scouts on these potential new badges.
2. Badges will have a clearly stated time period by which all requirements must be completed.
3. After the expiration date, the badge will be removed from the Test Lab and the National Council will evaluate if the subject should be added as a new merit badge.
4. When all requirements are finished successfully, a survey will be available to gather opinions on the badge. Scouts will then be able to access the certificate of completion which must be signed and dated by the registered adult they have worked with.
5. Should the badge be approved as a new merit badge, Scouts can be credited as having earned that badge if they present their signed and dated certificate to their unit.
6. Scouts completing the requirements after the expired time period will not be recognized as having earned the badge.

If any scouts are interested in evaluating one or all of these merit badges, please see Mr. Hethcote.

Yours in Scouting

Matthews Troop 46 - No Committee Meeting Tonight

No Committee Meeting Tonight. We would like to get together next month, move the invite to Spond in the meantime, and invite the Philmont Leadership to present on their experience. Please also take a moment to welcome our newest committee member, Brandon Wong. He has agreed to help manage Spond and work to improve our overall communication plan with all. Thank you for all you do for Matthews Troop 46.

2025 Matthews Alive!

Hello Troop 46 families!
I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday weekend and got to see fireworks at some point.  It's hard to believe, but we're halfway through the summer and school is right around the corner.  And that means that the Matthews Alive Festival will be here before we know it.

Volunteering at this festival is our troop's biggest fundraiser for the year! It is mandatory that each scout participate in this fundraiser in order for us to meet our commitment to the festival.  We were offered the position to work the vendor ice distribution booth once again, so we will be in the SHADE again this year.  We will have chairs, fans and access to a huge cooler to stick out heads in when we get too hot.  It's a pretty cushy job compared to previous years and I'm thankful for it!

Below is the link to sign up to volunteer for this event.  At least 2 scouts and 2 adults are required to be at the booth at all times. There are 44 scout shifts to fill, so if each scout signs up for 2 shifts throughout the 4 days, we will have no problem meeting our commitment.  As with everything in scouts, this is a team effort.  But I'm not above bribing.... so I'm sure some homemade cookies will make their way to the booth for volunteers to enjoy.  :)

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions!  Thank you in advance to everyone for your commitment to scouts!
