Matthews Troop 46 - Summer Camp Update
Greetings again from Camp Grimes. Our scouts have been first in line for most meals which is an indication that they are working together as a team to be successful. Yesterday, we had a thunderstorm roll through the camp. The majority of our group sheltered in place at the shelter in our campsite. A small number of scouts were at the dining hall. There was significant thunder and lightning, trees fell, and several of our scouts were frightened. The younger scouts and those without rain gear gathered in the middle of the shelter while the adults and older scouts with rain gear circled around them. A couple of dads focused on talking to the younger scouts throughout the experience. We have 4 troops in the site, many leaders, and we all worked together to keep everyone safe. Once the storm moved through and we received the all clear, we proceeded back to our planned activities.
While the camp lost power during the storm, we had previously planned to cook out for our midweek celebration. While we enjoyed freshly cooked hamburgers, hotdogs, and T-bone steaks with chips, watermelon, apples, and two dutch oven cobblers, the rest of the camp made do with PBJ's for all. Those that were aware of our feast were quite jealous. The scouts then entertained us with skits and songs. Afterwards, we opened their care packages. It was quite the spectacle, and we have had absolutely no indications of home sickness since that event. Thank you for making that possible.
Saturday Return: we plan to leave the camp at about 8:30am. We will travel to the Golden Coral in Shelby for breakfast. After breakfast we will return to Matthews Presbyterian Church somewhere in the neighborhood of 12:30pm. Please check the Blog on the Troop 46 website. I will send any https://matthewstroop46.org/gallery.htmlarrival time updates to the blog since using scoutbook is difficult from the road.

Matthews Troop 46 - Summer Camp Update
Greetings from Camp Grimes. Our scouts are doing great. We woke up 6:00am this morning, raised the flag in our campsite and were the first in line for breakfast. Our scouts also posted our Troop Flag close to the dining hall so we line up with some shade during evening formation.
Pictures Link click on the link to our Gallery and the 2025-06 Summer Camp.
We are keeping a close eye on the scouts, monitoring their food and water intake. They are handling the test and humidity very well. While we are sharing a campsite with several other troops, we managed to get sort of a private nook with Adirondacks, tents, a covered table area, fire pit with seating and access to two private shower stalls with hot water supplies. We have also been sble to run a drop chord to our area for power.
Thank you for giving your scouts the opportunity to attend camp this year. We will continue to keep a watchful eye on them. Please let me know if you have any questions.
