Matthews Troop 46 - Arrival

The bulk of us just arrived back from summer camp. The boys will need to unpack the trailer. But they should be ready for pickup by 12:30pm. We had a terrific week at camp.

Matthews Troop 46 - Summer Camp Update

Greetings from Camp Grimes Scout Camp. The scouts have been having a blast at camp. Many of our first-year scouts have been participating in the Trailblazer program. This program introduces new scouts to basic scout skills, knowledge, and other activities. Those scouts quite often spend the afternoon swimming in the lake and both Trailblazer groups have completed their 5 mile hike within the past two days. Great news, the food is better than in some year's past. We met a gentleman that has been working with the camp to improve the quality of the meals. The best news is that the salad bar is back. At this time, there is a whole hog roasting over a firepit. It has been slow cooking all day. Each day our leaders spend some of their day hiking out to all of the program areas in an effort to capture images of our scouts in action. While the cellular signal is not that strong, we will continue to try and get images of all of our scouts uploaded during the week.

All of our scouts are in good spirits. Wednesday night, after dinner, we typically spend some time together in the campsite. Tonight, we will celebrate the week so far, hand out care packages, and have our own Troop Campfire lead by our scouts working on their communication merit badges. Matthews Troop 46 - July New River Canoeing Trip Signup

Greetings Troop 46 Scouts, Parents, and Leaders,

We'd like to present Troop 46's July camping trip. This will be a canoeing trip on the New River.

The troop will depart Matthews Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 19, by 6:30 pm and travel to the Group campsite at the US 221Access if the New River State Park. On Saturday, we will travel to Zaloo's Canoes where we will get our canoes and depart on the New River heading downstream towards the historic Gentry Road Bridge (10 miles downstream) where the shuttle will return us to Zaloo's. We'll then return to the campsite for dinner and a campfire. We'll depart New River on Sunday morning, July 21, and expect to return by approximately 12:30 pm.

Troop 46 - Summer Camp

Hello everyone summer camp is just a week away, I'm sure your scout is as excited as mine about the trip.

 

At this Tuesday meeting I would like to ask new scouts to bring their trunks to the meeting.  This would allow the scouts to have their gear checked before summer camp.  If they are missing anything they will still have till Sunday to collect any missing items.  Remember, your scout should be packing their own trunk.  

 

One tip from prior years is to get them a mesh bag or a clothesline to put their dirty and damp clothes in or on so they can air out and dry outside of their trunk.  Wet clothes in a trunk don't smell good when they arrive home.

 

Reminder if you haven't turned in a medical form a,b,c for your scout please do so before we leave on Sunday. Camp Grimes is strict on this policy and has sent scouts home over this before

Troop 46 - Summer Camp Parent Meeting

Good Morning everyone,

 

On Tuesday June 11 we will be having a parent meeting for Summer Camp.

 

Our adult leaders will go over what summer camp will be like, talk about the packlist list, I will bring hardcopies of the scout camp schedules and Mr. Hethcote will bring boxes that can be used for care packages.   

 

Note on care packages they should be non-perishable items that will not melt as they will be in non AC environment at camp.  We normally have the scouts open these packages on Wednesday night at our campsite.  We have found that a care package from home and note on Wednesday night is a good pick me up for the scouts that helps them get through any feelings of homesickness they might have at that point.

 

If you have any questions bring them on Tuesday and we will try to get them all answered.

 

Theme days - I have been informed that the Camp will have theme days this year.  If your scout wishes to participate here are the scheduled theme days.

USA, Tie-Dye, Hawaiian Shirt, Throwback Thursday/OA and Fun Friday (not certain what that means as far as apparel).
