Matthews Troop 46 - Deep Sea Fishing Trip

Many thanks to the scouts, leaders, and esteemed visitors that were able to be a part of our Deep-Sea Fishing Trip this year. We spent 5 hours at sea with little or no sea sickness. While we caught some fish at sea, we then caught more at the grocery store. Once we returned to the campsite, our adult cook team got to work while the rest of the leaders and visitors took the scouts to the beach for a couple of hours of fun. Many thanks to our lifeguards, aquatics supervisor, and other adults for keeping a close eye on the scouts as they swam in the ocean with regular buddy checks and kept the scouts in no more than chest high water. That evening, the cook team; Brian, Ryan, and me fried 20 lbs of french fries, 6-8 pounds of fish, and prepared a large pot of low country boil. Everyone ate well and all of the food was consumed. The scouts played a lot of gaga ball and had a terrific time. We also managed to avoid any significant rain. We had sprinkles on the way back on the boat and a few sprinkles on the way home after we got into the cars. Again, thanks everyone for a great weekend. Here is a link to the troop website gallery. It is already populating with pictures.

Departure: Friday at 6pm: Please try your best to arrive at the church by 6pm on Friday. We are driving a little further than normal.
Campsite: We will be camping at Future Farmers of America Campground. It is pretty vast. There will be two other Boy Scout Troops at the camp. We will get to make some new friends.
Scouts: The scouts will be camping as patrols using troop tents. Parents and siblings will need to provide their own tent or reach out to us if you need to borrow one from the troop. We have plenty.
Food: Scouts will be providing and preparing their own breakfasts and lunch. Parents and siblings are welcome to eat with the Old Goats patrol for breakfasts and lunch. Saturday night's dinner will be a family style fish fry. The old goats will cook for all attendees. If you have special dietary needs, please come prepared.
Fishing: We will get up about 7:30am, depart for the Marina to arrive by 8am. The adventure starts at 8:30 and lasts until 1:30pm. Please bring drinks and snacks on the boat. They have a snack bar if you have money to spend. Upon return, the crew will clean and bag our catch for a fee. If you would like to pitch in on the crew tip, please see me.
Weather: It is likely there will be rain with a chance of thunderstorms all day Saturday. Please bring the appropriate rain gear. If the weather is severe, the fishing could be cancelled. In that case, we have at least two alternative venues prepared. The fishing outfitter will allow a refund if we cannot reschedule the trip.
Swimming: While we have discussed heading to a public beach to catch some waves, unless the weather forecast changes, we may not be able to do this. But, please pack a swimsuit and beach towel just in case.
Sunday Departure: We plan to leave the camp about 8:30am to arrive at the church by 12:30pm.

Reminder, please complete the waiver at the link above. Bring a chair for the campsite. We will have access to bathrooms in Barracks #5. Thank you for being a part of this trip. We will have a memorable time.
