Matthews Troop 46 Update

We had a very strenuous hike up and over Stone Mountain State Park this weekend. Many thanks to the scouts and leaders that helped make that trip a success. I have added the Ski Trip Album and Stone Mountain State Park album to our website. The adult participants should be pushing some photos into the albums very soon. Here is a link to get there.

We also now have Troop Blog on the website. You can find the latest Troop Updates in the Blog. Here is a link to "The Blog". Thank you for being a part of Matthews Troop 46.

Matthews Troop 46 Update

Many thanks you to the scouts and parents who were able to participate in Scouting for Food and Scout Sunday this weekend. Our next adventure is to Stone Mountain, NC from Feb 17-19. This trip has spectacular views. We will have a split hike with a less challenging option for the newer scouts and a more challenging option for the older scouts. Please register at the link below.

Stone Mountain NC Winter Camping Adventure

Stone Mountain is in Alleghany and Wilkes counties 60 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, Stone Mountain State Park is home to the 600-foot granite dome that is a designated National Natural Landmark and the historic Hutchinson Homestead, a restored mid-19th-century farm situated at the mountain base. Stone Mountain is one of the many destinations along the Mountains to Sea Trail.

Campground:  The troop will camp in Group Campsite #3 within State Park property.

Trip Overview: In this adventure, Troop 46 will have a winter base camping scenario with patrol boxes and camp kitchens. On Saturday, the scouts will hike the scenic Stone Mountain Loop Trail in a Split hike scenario.

The troop will hike as a unit from the group campsite to the Stone Mountain connector trail.

Younger Scouts:  Newer scouts will hike the upper summit trail of the Stone Mountain Loop as an “Out-N-Back” 3 Mile hike (with added option of a waterfall view on the stairs). Presented in Yellow on the attached map.  (See Stone Mountain Trail Map below)

Older Scouts: Older scouts will hike down into the valley of Stone Mountain, and detour along the Cedar Rock and Wolf Rock trail, before connecting back to the Summit of Stone Mountain for a 6 Mile loop. Presented in Pink on the attached map.
